This photo doesn’t quite capture the dedication and effort our students put in this week. Our team-building activity was all about strengthening leadership and listening skills, and it left a lasting impact on everyone involved.
Led by our amazing staff, the students were blindfolded and spread across the gym, with one of our key leaders, Kevin Jones, positioned at the center. His role was crucial – clapping twice to guide the students toward him. But there was a twist! Other staff members—Sai, Cashmeir, and Sky—were also placed randomly in the gym, each adding to the challenge by clapping once to throw the students off.
The exercise was more than just a game. It mirrored real-life struggles, showing how youth often aim to reach a center of success, but face distractions like peer pressure, stress, and negative influences that can easily mislead them. After two minutes, the students removed their blindfolds to see where they had ended up, and many were disappointed to realize they had followed the wrong signals.
But the most powerful moment came during the third round. This time, the students learned from their previous mistakes and worked together. They held hands, communicated clearly, and supported one another, ensuring everyone could distinguish between the correct and incorrect claps. This cooperation not only helped them succeed but also reinforced the importance of teamwork, trust, and clear communication.
What began as a simple exercise evolved into a profound lesson in leadership, resilience, and the power of unity. Watching our students grow together through these activities is a testament to their potential, and we’re excited to see them continue to thrive!
